In 2013, Mooci design labs was worked with Mercedes-Benz to redesign the Drive Style app to align with the new “sensual purity” design language of Mercedes-Benz. The app concept was designed to attract a younger audience who were “digital natives” and potential buyers of the new C-Class model.
As the creative director/designer, I met with the design team to discuss possible directions and take stylistic cues from the latest C-class model. The diamond grill was the most iconic statement from the exterior design and was brought in as a unifying element to tie everything together. The red was retained to keep the sporty look of the car. The glassy, skeuomorphic style was replaced with a flat design that was more complementary with the car interior.
While the redesigned app never launched, the concept demonstrated how flat design can still work synonymously with the car interior and extend the driver’s emotional connection to their car to their device. The results served an inspirational springboard for other future concepts.
